Top Foods To Help You Live Longer

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

1 DARK FRUITS:
Red or purple fruits, black grapes, blueberries, black cherries, black berries and bilberries contain much vitamin C and flavonoids.

2 WHOLE-GRAINS:
They include brown rice, wholemeal bread and porridge, all keeping bowels regular and efficient to prevent toxins, that have been processed by the liver and sent to the intestines, from re-entering the blood. Whole-grains are also rich in vitamins E and B, which keep your nervous system healthy. Brown rice contains methionine, which forms enzymes that fight free radicals.

3 CABBAGE FAMILY:
All members of the cabbage family, especially broccoli, Brussels sprouts and spring and winter greens are rich in chemicals that help the liver break down cancer-causing toxins and pollutants. They are also rich in carotenes, more agents against free radicals. The cabbage family helps prevent osteoporosis, as it is an excellent source of vitamin K, needed for bone formation and repair.

4 OILY FISH:
The omega-3 oils found in oily fish, particularly mackerel, herring and sardines, may help prevent red blood cells from clumping and blocking blood vessels. Oily fish are also rich in zinc, which helps prevent prostate problems in older men.

5 SOY BEANS:
Recent research has shown that soy beans contain materials that can be converted by digestions and fermentation to genistein and daidzein, which help prevent breast cancer and prostate cancer and also forms a natural hormone replacement therapy for those in the menopause. Referred to as ‘plant oestrogen’s’, there are, in fact, a type of flavonoid which is a good oestrogen’s balancer. To receive all the benefits soy has to offer, eat tofu, soy yoghurt, soy flour and soy milk, but more especially fermented soy products such as miso and tempeh.

6 BRAZIL NUTS:
Selenium is found in Brazil nuts, which are actually one of the very few good sources for this mineral, needed in the body to make the antioxidant enzyme called glutathione peroxidase, which helps prevent free-radical damage to your cells. Studies continue to show that people who eat selenium-rich food greatly reduce their risk of developing cancer and heart disease. Research also indicates that selenium helps the kidneys to clean toxins from the body more efficiently. Other sources include whole-grain cereals, seafood and seaweed.

7 CELERY JUICE:
Meat eating can cause over-acidity which, can lead to illnesses such as osteoarthritis. Celery juice, made with an extractor or juicer, will help reduce acidity. It is credited with being one of the best treatments for the prevention of osteoarthritis. Drink 1-2 glasses daily, even more if it seems to be helping.

8 SESAME SEEDS:
Although bones obviously need calcium to remain strong and healthy in later life, they also need the osteoporosis-fighting nutrients magnesium and zinc. Sesame seeds are rich in both and contain levels of calcium. Mix them with other foods or use tahini (sesame seed paste) instead of butter.

9 ORGANIC LIVER:
Liver is rich in vitamin A and zinc, which are both in the anti-ageing nutrient list and help prevent hormone deficiencies. Liver also contains folic acid and other B vitamins, which could help prevent heart attacks and Alzheimer’s. Furthermore, it contains chromium, which helps keep blood sugar levels down. Not everyone likes to eat liver; those who prefer not to but who are happy to eat meat can buy desiccated liver tablets, though they are quite difficult to find in organic forms. Vegetarians need to eat a varied diet and take vitamin A (up to 10,000 i.u.), or safer beta-carotene which is converted to vitamin A (but not readily diabetics), and mineral supplements. It is not advisable for pregnant women to eat non-organic liver as it has high retinol content.

10 WATER:
Dehydration goes unnoticed in too many people. Stimulants, such as tea, coffee and alcohol, increase our need for water as they cause dehydration and thus increase the potential of kidney problems and damage. The average adult must drink at least 8 glasses of water daily to flush out toxins, maintain good health and adequate hydration. People who exercise a lot must drink more.

Tattoo representing protection? Help!?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

I’m getting a tattoo on the back of my neck symbolizing my guidance and protection of my mother who passed from breast cancer a few years ago. I don’t have any specific symbols that really remind me of her, however i’d love to get some type of traditional symbol that stands for protectiob of for guidance. I love interesting and intriquate symbols, if that helps. Any ideas? Help!

P.S. - I don’t want to get something reprenting cancer or cancer awarness, i want it to stand for the guidance of my mother’s love, not of the disease which took it.

When i got told my mum had breast cancer i needed someone 2 talk to my teacher was there is this good?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

My teacher gave up a lot of time to help me through this is this a good enough thanks to write on her card. I dont want her to forget me.

I know no gift can adequately express my thanks to you for all the help you gave me but maybe a few words will.

Miss
Just want to thank you so much for the advice you have shared with me in the past. Based on the advice u gave me i was able to think long and hard and make the decisions that were necessary for me to try and be happy during this tough time. Theres a small gift as a token of my gratitude for all the support and understanding you gave me during the hardest time in my life. Your help was immeasurable and wouldn't have coped as well if it hadn't been for your advice and direction. I really did and still do appreciate your efforts as my life at the time was made easier due to them. Your words of encouragement Truly did make it easier for me not to turn round and give up.Who I become miss will always be connected to who you are as my teacher and how you gave up so much time for me.

So thanks again Miss i will be forever grateful

That made me cry. That is so well written, so well thought out and truely honest. I think that teachers give and give and give, and for you to tell your teacher a very honest and greatful response, will make every part of her life worthwhile, not just the part where she wants one of her students to find strength in a time where her mum is suffering.
You are clearly an astounding person, and I thank you for telling someone else their worth and the value of their influence in your life. Thank you. xoxoxo.

what is the percentage for survival with having stage 2 breast cancer?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

A masectomy is in the near future as well as chemo. Don't hold back. Thanks

I don't know about percentages, but Stage 2 is considered early stage. There are so many treatments available to us and there are many survivors, even in later stage cancers. I was diagnosed stage 2B breast cancer last February. I had mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, ovaries/total hysterectomy, Herceptin treatments (almost done!!) and on Femera (my cancer was estrogen positive as well as Her2/neu positive). It was a challenging year, but I feel good and remain positive and hopeful. Hang in there, take it one day/treatment at a time, and stay strong. If you need to talk, feel free to email me through my profile. My very best to you.

needing to know what to do for my step mother with breast cancer?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

My step-mother has stage 4 breast cancer again.. she and my father got married in june and had a clean bill of health (got diag. with breast cancer in 2003. )she had to have a clean bill of health to be carried on my fathers insurance after getting married but about 3 months after they got married it came back and it came back realy bad. they hid it from all 6 of us kids for a long time but we figured it out when she started having a problem with her speech and not being able to move alot and was gravely sick. but now i think that she has just given up. needing to know if there is anything that i can do to make her see that we want her to live….

I know exactly how you feel. my mother died from cancer when i was in the 4th grade(I'm in college now) and i was the hardest thing to deal with. sometimes she would give up a little but you have to do things to make you step mother see that you need her. my mother gave birth to my baby sister before she died and that was the main thing that made her fight to live. my mother fought as hard as she could because she knew we needed her. let her know you need her and she will fight.

survival rate for breast cancer at 18?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

i might have breast cancer im gettin a biopsy in a week but im freakin out… whats the life span of a 18 year old with breast cancer
plz comment
i have a 4 month old son so i dont want to die :( and wonderful husband

It is very very rare for women your age to get breast cancer. If it is cancer there is a good possiblilty you will live a long and fruitful life. Many women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, including myself are doing well and leading productive lives.

I do know that the waiting to get the biopsy and then waiting for the results will seem like the longest week or two you have ever spent. Try to do some fun activities to get your mind on other things. Watch a silly movie or go hang out with your friends, just try to keep busy and good luck to you.

Donating hair…?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

My hair is pretty long and I want to donate my hair to the breast cancer society.
The problem is, I've died my hair before.
Does that matter?
Please tell me where I can see for sure.

No, its fine. I just went to the locks of love website.
"Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable." But they said you can't give highlighted hair if its been bbleached. See for yourself! http://www.locksoflove.org/donate.html

Early signs of Inflammatory breast cancer?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

I noticed a spot on my left breast on Sunday. It is the size of a quarter, dark colored in the center, and red around the edge. Went to the doctor and he thought it might be busted blood vessels, but said to come back in a week and have it rechecked. I have searched and searched for photos of what Inflammatory breast cancer looks like in the beginning stages. Can anyone help? I am terrified.

I’m sorry you are so upset. I wish I could give you a definitive answer but I can’t. IBC Research http://www.ibcresearch.org has photos but please talk to your doctor about your fears. If you feel you need a second opinion see an OB/GYN. I think mine saved my life.
Take care
Tricia

Why is my digital polaroid camera making all my pictures..?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

PINK!!!

I have a polaroid camera and i dont know the type but its one of the pink ones that was about $150 and the money goes to help breast cancer. Well when i first got my camera i thought it worked really good but now its making all my pictures have a pink-ish glow. And im not kidding. Is the pink reflecting off of my camera or something? Like idk what to do and i just feel like saving up to buy a new one. what are some good digital cameras that take good qaulity pictures in the daytime and at night?

Well I'm not very versed into giving to charities but here's my take.
IF you find that it's your camera and nothing you did or didn't do why not just buy the camera and charities do separately.
My list of very good brands are Fuji, Sony, Canon and Nikon. Notice I didn't include Polaroid.
Consider Canon A630. 4X optical zoom 8 megapixels. Has manual controls in addition to auto, will give you excellent 8X10 print.According to Website dpreview.com Circuit City has it for $212-
Also consider Canon A570IS, $171 at Beach Camera and Canon A550 $140 at Beach Camera.
