What are some great fund raising ideas to help raise money for Breast cancer awareness?

Friday, May 29th, 2009

My husband and I are wanting to do things year round to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen foundation. This is a very important cause for us as well as our family. In July,we will be having a karaoke night, but we need more ideas that can get the community interested and have fun at the same time. Any of your suggestions will be taken into consideration and will be greatly appreciated. Also,if you know of any places that sell inexpensive breast cancer items so we can give them out as "thank you" gifts or to sell for more donations, please share your info. Thank you to all who respond to this.

We once raised money doing a Poker Tournament at someone's house. A little over 75 close family members and friends arrived. Admission was $5 per adult or a bottle of wine. The wine was not opened but saved for a future wine tasting we organized as a fundraiser. The $5 covered food/drinks being served. To play poker you had to pay x amount of $$ and x amount of chips were given. Extra chips cost more money. I believe they rented some regular round tables and chairs but the poker stuff they borrowed from friends. The final winner won a cash price but the 2 runner ups received only a gift card or something. I can't recall how much was raised but it was a good turn out. I've also been to a dominoes tournament, golf tournament and fishing tournament. The dominoes tournament brings in lots of money each year because the prizes are usually donated by local vendors and worth a few hundred dollars. The golf tournament was held at a local resort and the clubhouse helped organize the tournament but you can do this on your own. We had some employees who raised money once by setting up a tennis tournament between each other to raise funds for the homeless. It wasn't much but it was something. You can also have a private auction. Ask friends and family that own their own business if they can donate items or services and raffle these off at a private event at someone's home. Maybe at the wine tasting. A travel agent can offer a weekend get away at a local resort; a CPA can offer free tax services; a chef can offer 1 free cooking lesson; a teacher 5 hours of tutoring; a mechanic a free tuneup; a decorator can re-arrange a house's look w/o spending anyting, etc.

In regards to inexpensive breast cancer gifts go to Oriental Trading at www.orientaltrading.com. They have a few items you can give away that are not going to break the budget. See if you can buy in bulk from them and save even more. Good luck!

Surviving stage 4 breast cancer?

Friday, May 29th, 2009

My mom has stage 4 breast cancer. Before that she had stage 2 breast cancer.Doctors got the tumor removed, test showed she was normal then. After 2 years its re appeared in the liver in 2 points. Its not very big. She had 6 Chemotherapy. After 3 Cancer from one point shrunk and went but again another point in the liver is found that's affected. Now she has inflammation of her legs and untill it doesnt go she cant take the last chemo. what r the chances of her survival. Any1 has any experience? plz give some gud news

Unfortunately, Stage 4 breast cancer is not considered curable. However, many women have been able to live for many years with Stage 4 breast cancer. There are many treatment options for breast cancer and the doctors generally move on to the next option when one stops working.

My legs retained fluid too when I was on chemo. It helps to do some walking to move that fluid out. The contraction of the leg muscles squeezes the fluid out. If you can encourage your mother to take a walk with you, that will surely help her. It doesn't have to be fast or far, even just around the block will help.

Don't lose hope about this though. Though "statistically" they say Stage 4 cannot be cured, there have been people with every type of cancer at every stage who have beaten the odds. We don't know why it happens, but sometimes it does. Also new treatments come out frequently, and sometimes there are clinical trials in late stages that can help someone who has no other treatment options.

They say a five year survival rate is pretty good for cancer, but when does those five years begin?

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Is it once you have the diagnosis, or is it after your last treatment?

I understand that for Triple Negative Breast Cancer it is 3 years would be the critical time, that if it comes back it would be within that time frame. I have read that Triple Negative Breast Cancer is more aggressive than regular breast cancer and the numbers reflect that in the recurrence rate.

From the time of diagnosis.

Breast Cancer, I am really scared , please help!?

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I have hear and read many symptoms of breast cancer.
I have been keeping this inside me just because i was scared to open up in front of anyone, i come from a very conservative society.
My nipple has a discharge that are of three types its never one .
One that looks like milk
One that is clear and sticky
One that is little brownish.

It does not come out on its own , it only comes out when i squeeze it.

I do not see any tumor, swelling or and inverted nipple or rash or anything of that sort.

I have had this since many years more than 8 yrs.I never went to a doctor because I was scared.
Now I have finally decided to go to a doctor with a help of my friend.

I have heard many say that discharge is a symptom of breast cancer, but i do not know what does the discharge look like.

Do i just have some hormonal imbalance?
I am very very scared and I am loosing my sleep over it. I do not feel tired, I havent lost my appetite.I am a perfectly normal girl .I am 31 yrs old.

Please help . I am very very scared, more than that if it is breast cancer I am worried how will I tell my parents who are already so old!
Please help.

Nothing that anyone can say here on YA will really address your fears and concerns. You are doing the right thing by seeing a doctor to assess you for this.

The fact that this has gone on for 8 years suggests that it is not cancer. Normally one would see some changes during that time, but you have reported that this discharge is something that continues as long as you continue your palpating efforts.

People who have never been pregnant have been able to produce breast milk by regular palpating and manipulation of the breast tissue over a period of time. It is possible that this situation has become a self-perpetuating situation, rather than cancer.

Whether your family is conservative or not has no bearing on this. In the meantime, relax. You will know soon after you see the doctor.

Best of luck.

Can a blood clot in the breast be a sign of breast cancer?

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Also whats the youngest you can be to get breast cancer?

honey i saw this and your other question, and you DO NOT by ANY MEANS have cancer. Check out your bras. Once, when i was 18 (3 years ago) i noticed an almost black spot on my left breast.
My first thought: OH SHIT< MELANOMA! ALL THOSE TOPLESS TANNING SESSIONS ARE FINALLY GOING TO KILL ME! I'm too young to die of anything, let alone cancer!
My second thought: well, it's not raised, so it CAN'T be melanoma…
Hours later: oh noooo it's raised, it IS melanoma or some other skin-cancer, and it's AGGRESSIVE!
then i realized one of my favorite bras' wire on that side (yes i have certain bras that i love) had broken and was not painfully poking, but poking nonetheless, right there.

What i had was not cancer, what sent me in a blood-pressure raising PANIC all day, was a mere blood-blister of sorts from a pesky bra wire…. and it went away within a week or two… i didn't count, i just noticed one day "oh hey, it's gone".

check out your bras, and good luck!

Teenagers Abortion Problem

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

In a teenagers life when the start the enjoy the life and special events, the pregnance is a very big problem in there life. The teenagers pregnance is very big problem of the world mostly the develop contary.when the teenages are coming out to the pregnant then the abortion is the simple solution of this essuse. The abortion is a process to dead the pregnant child befour his borth. But the abortion is the bad ,because in a abortion the innocent life is got the dead. Teenage pregnancy is technically defined as occurring when women under the age of 20 become pregnant, although in the india and other countary of the world like as USA and other develop countary , the term usually refers to girls younger than 18 years of age. God is creating of all things for every life. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist And it is He that has ordained life as sacred.

Pregnant teenagers face many of the same obstetrics issues as women in their 20s and 30s. However, there are additional medical concerns for younger mothers, particularly those under 15 and those living in developing countries. For mothers between 15 and 19, age in itself is not a risk factor, but additional risks may be associated with sociol factors. Teen pregnancy as a social issue in developed countries include lower educational levels, higher rates of poverty, and other poorer “life outcomes” in children of teenage mothers.

Teenage pregnancy in developed countries is usually outside of marriage, and carries a social stigma in many communities and cultures. For these reasons, there have been many studies and campaigns which attempt to uncover the causes and limit the numbers of teenage pregnancies. To the prevent the teenagers pregnance and abortion case, firstly we can give the sex education of teenagers, and full knowledge of sexual-relation and pregnance, also In the areas where the education level is

very low.

An abortion before the twelfth week, teens with unwanted pregnancies hurriedly take drastic measures to fix a problem. But, the problem, according to teen abortion facts, does not go away after a pregnancy is terminated. And for some, the problem is only beginning. A disorder called Post Traumatic Stress is plaguing millions of teenagers who are not psychologically stable enough to cope with the trauma associated with an unplanned pregnancy, life-altering decisions, and the destruction of life. After the surgery, guilt, shame, erratic behaviors, and substance abuse, even suicide, can result. And, at the center of those teens that self report issues, is the fear of being held accountable to God. All major decisions such as this should consider for a while before any life changing and irreversible changes take place.

It is important to understand all options and be able to make a confident decision based on facts and personal feelings.

Teenage fatherhood can also be a challenge. Many feel obliged to support their child, but due to the low levels of state benefits awarded to such couples, in addition to the low quantity of money that they often earn due to their age, are unable to do so fully. Another addition is that being a teenage father is sometimes looked down upon by society and peers. Teen abortion is a decision that will impact your life dramatically, whether you decide to abort or decide to give birth. People you know will choose to support your decision or condemn your decision, but this is your decision and you will live with the choice you make for the rest of your life.

Teen abortion has many risks. Studies have proven that abortion may lead to an increased chance of breast cancer, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, depression, and the contraction of Viral Hepatitis, not to mention death due to excessive bleeding or other complications. Whether you choose to keep your baby, put it up for adoption or have an abortion, hormones run crazy when you are pregnant. Hormones are to blame for the drastic mood swings pregnant women have during pregnancy. As you feel the life inside you start to grow, you will become attached to, or perhaps even angry at, this new life.

This life is exactly that - he or she is alive and it is a part of you. Teen abortion will affect you well into the future. Initially, you will feel cramping as the excess blood is discharging from your body — similar, but not as strong as, the pains felt during labor and delivery. This physical effect may cause you to feel an emotional emptiness you have never felt before. This emptiness is the beginning of depression that studies say can last a lifetime.
