Renewed Hope for Stage Four Breast Cancer Patients

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Even though most women know the importance of early detection and yearly screenings in the fight against breast cancer, each year thousands receive a devastating diagnosis of stage four breast cancer. In fact, each year more than one-in-four breast cancer patients are diagnosed with a highly aggressive breast cancer known as HER-2 neu positive, which until recently was considered seldom treatable.
Now a new therapy monitoring test, Siemens HER-2/neu blood test, is giving renewed hope to metastatic breast cancer patients. The test is the only FDA cleared serum HER-2/neu blood test, which can indicate whether metastatic breast cancer is progressing or responding to treatment. By combining advanced drug therapies, routine mammograms, advanced breast ultrasounds and MRIs, doctors have been able to fight many metastatic cancers more effectively.
