Renewed Hope for Stage Four Breast Cancer PatientsThe Only FDA Cleared Serum, HER-2/neu Blood Test, May Help Treat Metastatic Breast Cancer More Effectively - Even though most women know the importance of early detection and yearly screenings in the fight against breast cancer, each year thousands receive a devastating diagnosis of stage four breast cancer. In fact, each year more than one-in-four breast cancer patients are diagnosed with a highly aggressive breast cancer known as HER-2 neu positive, which until recently was considered seldom treatable.

Now a new therapy monitoring test, Siemens HER-2/neu blood test, is giving renewed hope to metastatic breast cancer patients. The test is the only FDA cleared serum HER-2/neu blood test, which can indicate whether metastatic breast cancer is progressing or responding to treatment. The test helps doctors to monitor and treat their patients with more targeted therapies.

Periodic HER-2/neu blood tests help monitor the effectiveness of these therapies and plan future ones. By combining advanced drug therapies, routine mammograms, advanced breast ultrasounds and MRIs, doctors have been able to fight many metastatic cancers more effectively.

Early Signs of Breast Cancer Risk

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

http://www.neomatrix.com - The HALO Test is a new screening process to ess a woman’s risk for developing breast cancer. It works similarly to a pap smear by detecting abnormal cells long before cancer might develop. While a mammogram is recommended for women 40 and older, HALO is for women 25 and older.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for women from 20 to 59. Statistics also show that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer and 70% of women diagnosed have no identifiable risk factors. However, typically cancer has been in the breast for 8 to 10 years before it can be seen on a mammogram. The HALO Test searches for atypical cells in the breast fluid. If atypical cells are present, the patient is 4 to 5 times more likely to get breast cancer and can be monitored more closely to detect signs of breast cancer at an earlier stage.
